Programs Offered at Volta
Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE): is used when a school has more than 20 students who speak a single language. The teacher’s objective is to use the students’ native language to transition them into the general education classroom and prepare them to be at grade level with their peers. Volta currently uses this program to serve our students from K-8 who speak Gujarati. Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI): is used for students who languages other than English or Spanish with less than 20 students in a single grade. The teacher teaches in English using a variety of visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic strategies. This program is also known as English as a Second Language(ESL). Over 90% of Volta teachers have their ESL endorsements and can provide TPI/ESL services to their students without pulling them from the classroom, thus giving our students the benefits of receiving scaffolding throughout the day .The objective is to teach our non native English language students English and to support their academics in the general education program. Volta currently has students who speak over 23 languages; these languages include Tagalog, Urdu, Hindi, French, Ewe, Korean, Burmese, Bosnian, Vietnamese and Somalian. In addition we also have an Arabic pull out program to support our Arabic speaking students in grades K-8. Spanish Dual Language: Dual language is a form of bilingual education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages.As the students begin the program, the primary language used to teach literacy and content is Spanish. As the student progress through the system, English is incorporated more until it eventually evens out in fourth grade as English is used to teach Literacy and Math, while Spanish is used to teach Science and Social Studies. Educación bilingüe de transición (TBE): se usa cuando una escuela tiene más de 20 estudiantes que hablan un solo idioma. El objetivo del maestro es usar el idioma nativo de los estudiantes para hacer la transición al aula de educación general y prepararlos para estar a nivel de grado con sus compañeros. Volta actualmente usa este programa para servir a nuestros estudiantes de K-8 que hablan Gujarati. Programa de Instrucción de Transición (TPI): se usa para estudiantes que no hablan inglés o español con menos de 20 estudiantes en un solo grado. El profesor enseña en inglés utilizando una variedad de estrategias visuales, auditivas, táctiles y kinestésicas. Este programa también se conoce como inglés como segundo idioma (ESL). Más del 90% de los maestros de Volta tienen sus aprobaciones de ESL y pueden proporcionar servicios de TPI / ESL a sus estudiantes sin sacarlos del aula, lo que les brinda a nuestros estudiantes los beneficios de recibir andamios durante todo el día. El objetivo es enseñar nuestro idioma inglés no nativo Estudiantes de inglés y para apoyar a sus académicos en el programa de educación general. Programa de dos idiomas en español: es una forma de educación bilingüe en la que los estudiantes aprenden alfabetización y contenido en dos idiomas. A medida que los estudiantes comienzan el programa, el idioma principal utilizado para enseñar alfabetización y contenido es el español. A medida que el estudiante avanza a través del sistema, el inglés se incorpora más hasta que finalmente ambos idiomas se utilizan por igual en cuarto grado ya que el inglés se usa para enseñar alfabetización y matemáticas, mientras que el español se usa para enseñar ciencias y estudios sociales.
